MS USB mouse sluggish performance on laptop

Microsoft Opti mouse 3000

Specs: Windows Vista, Dual Core/2G
I have Microsoft Optical Mouse 3000 connected via USB. Running Vista SP2, on an Acer Aspire Laptop. For the second time this week, my mouse pointer became very sluggish.

The only solution was to reboot. Does anyone have a better solution or at least something I can try. Rebooting for the second time in a week is getting to be a WOT, waste of time.

That is usually an indication that the system is overloaded.

First thing I recommend is to clean out temp files and cookies. Download and run Ccleaner Slim for that purpose. Get it at the link below.

This is really funny but I downloaded CCleaner (and I respect the company, in fact I use their Defraggler quite often), but other than cleaning some TEMP space, and losing my Firefox Tabs, CCleaner did NOT solve the problem. In fact, I tried it when the mouse was NOT sluggish, and the sluggishness of the mouse reappeared about 2 hours later! Can you believe that?

For now, the best solution for sluggish mouse remains the one recommended at - that is, put the laptop to sleep and bring it right back. That takes just 2 minutes, but of course it is just a workaround.

If anyone has any additional ideas, let me know, Thanks!
