Mouse/screensaver conflict

Microsoft Intellimouse explorer wireless...

Specs: Windows 7 (64bit)
My Microsoft mouse prevents the screensaver initialising. Apparently I need an input data filter, but can't find this update anywhere in Microsoft. I have installed latest Intellimouse software (7 I think) which may also cure the problem. Now I have two mice on device manager, the Intellimouse and an HID mouse. If I disable the HID will I lose the mouse or will it keep working? When I go to disable the HID I get a dire warning about the consequences and haven't the courage to press the button! Don't want to lose my pointing device, couldn't fix this. Thanks.

Don't disable it, uninstall it, then reboot. In fact, uninstall both mice, then reboot.

Apparently you don't know how to use the Alt, Tab, & arrow keys?

Apparently not! The inference is that these keys make the cursor move, is this correct? Never had a problem with a mouse before, seems so fundamental! Delayed response due to Live Mail putting your response in junk mail, this now sorted. The move from XP to Win 7 is proving a big learning curve.
