Mouse buttons have stopped working

November 25, 2010 at 07:56:16
Specs: Windows XP
Last night my mouse buttons stopped working, the pointer still moves but nothing can be selected, strangely the keyboard is working fine
I have tried three mice, two cordless and one corded with no success.
I have tried rolling back with system restore still nothing.
The only time it works is in safe mode.
Does anyone have any ideas of anything else I could try?

Try removing the mouse listing in Device manager and rebooting. If you have a mouse with special features you may need to reinstall the software for it.

Is this a laptop with an added mouse?

Thanks, I will try it tonight, it is an Evesham desktop machine.

I'm afraid that didn't work, it is just a normal corded PS/2 mouse if that helps.

You didn't reply to my question about the type of computer you have (laptop or other).

So if you boot into Windows Safe Mode you then have a fully functional mouse?

Look at the listings in device manager while you are in safe mode to see if there are multiple entries for mice. If so, try removing all.
