Motherboards and dc jacks

Specs: Windows XP
Hello, I have a dell latitude d610, the system works great running on battery. The dc jack was broken, so I ordered a new jack, and de-soldered the broken jack. On the mother board I noticed a couple of scratches around the dc jack holes. should I be concerned about a dead short? should I paint something over the scratch before I solder on the new dc jack?

The simple answer is you have to repair the jack correctly. We can't see what you are seeing.

Less might be more in this case. If you are saying that the top coat of the top layer of printed circuit seems damaged then leave it. Unless some metal touches it but none should.
