This is a possible answer to an old thread, not really a question. I had a problem with a new build, where I could power up the MB with the 24-pin connector, but not if I plugged in the 8-pin CPU connectors. Everything online told me I had bent pins in my CPU socket or an otherwise bad motherboard, but I couldn't find any evidence of that.

I'm ashamed to admit it, but I had plugged the 6-pin GPU connector on a power cable into a peripheral power port on the PSU, and the 8-pin end into one of the CPU power ports. Once I replaced that with the correct 8-pin-8pin cable, it powered up just fine.

I wish these cable-ends were fool-proof, because apparently I'm a fool.

We make mistakes, we learn, we improve. No need to be ashamed at least you learnt something and resolved your own problem. Sometimes it is fun to diagnose a problem, annoying but fun. At the end of it though you learn and improve. Well done and thank you for letting us know.

At least that mistake didn't fry your MBoard. There are some easy to make ones that can.
