Mother Board Bad?

October 6, 2011 at 19:05:01
Specs: Windows Vista, T5800 Dual 2 GHZ/2 GB RAM
Model: Dell Studio 1737 with Vista OS
The battery stopped charging and I get an error message while booting up saying it doesn't recognize the AC adapter. The laptop works fine as long as its plugged in. Since I was using an aftermarket AC charger I bought a replacement from Dell. This didn't fix the problem.
I then got a new battery for it, but this also doesn't charge and am getting the same error
I tried Dell's trouble shooting tips:
I unplugged the charger, took out the battery, plugged the charger back in- same error message
I flashed the BIOS, same error message
Dell says its the mother board and tried to sell me a new one. (along with a three year extened warrenty that's worth more than the laptop at this point.
Thoughts?

I wouldn't buy a mother board based on that.

My thoughts exactly. What else could it be?

I just remembered something. My neighbor has a Dell. The power supply appeared to be bad & he wanted to hire me to replace it. Dell told him that he could return the power supply if it didn't fix the problem. That would be the only way I would buy the mother board. In other words, they guarantee that it will fix the problem. If it doesn't, you don't have to pay.
