Monitor won't stay on

June 6, 2014 at 13:38:36
Specs: Windows 7, Don't know
My monitor - Acer LED went off this morning, I thought it was the computer that was broken so I took it to a repair shop and they said they fixed it but it's nothing wrong with it. Brought it home and it still doesn't go on. It turns on then off again after 3 seconds!! Why is this? Does anyone know? Thanks

Does it actually go off - as in actually power down fully?

Or does the standby light/indicator show it's in standby mode; or are there no indicator lights at all when it "goes off"?

Also what model is the display; and how old is it; or is this actually a laptop? Whichever it is model the number will be useful...

When you attached another monitor--you did that, right?--did that monitor work? That way you'll know for sure if the problem is with the computer or monitor.

Thank you for your reply. I just checked it - yes the light stays on as if it is functioning normally, doesn't go into standby mode, just goes off. It's now started doing it intermittantly. Could it be the power cable?

Hi, it isn't the computer - that is fully functioning, I took it to a repair shop and they showed me on their screen (and charged me for diagnostic test :( . I am certain it's the monitor. Maybe it's just had it's day and needs replacing?

It's probably not the power cable since the LEDs work but check that the data cable is tightly connected. But yeah it's probably time to buy a new one.
