Specs: Windows Vista Home Basic/Ubuntu (11.10)
Okay, so the other day I was looking into Ubuntu, and I installed it onto a pen drive. I tinkered around with it, and I decided to boot onto Vista. When I did, I was greeted by a message saying "Out of Range". I researched (Ubuntu still worked) and I saw it's either refresh rate or resolution. The resolution was the same in Ubuntu as Vista, but refresh I dunno. Also, I know it's not the monitor or video cards, because I'm typing this on the same computer. This is an eMachines Vista Home Basic 32 bit/Ubuntu 11.10 32 bit. I don't know what the monitor is (it's offbrand) and resolution/refresh rate is 1280x1024@60hz.

Boot the system, press F8, select "enable low-resolution", then when you get into Windows, set the resolution & refresh rate to what is should be.
