Solved Monitor randomly turns itself off whilst gaming

January 31, 2014 at 05:08:37
Specs: Windows 7
I have a CROSSOVER BLACK TUNE 2763AMG IPS LED 27 and a computer that in only a few months old that has just been built. Occasionally, but more often that not after the computer has had hours of use and only ever while I am playing a game, the monitor will all of a sudden turn off. If i leave it for a while the monitor will turn itself back on but I can also immediately just turn it back on at the power button. Once it happens once it frequently happens every couple of minutes for a little while until it either is given a rest for a little or i stop playing a game for some time.

Any suggestions as to why the monitor turns itself off?

If you were my son or daughter I would suggest you not sit in front of the PC for hours playing video games but seriously, if you have checked the power settings on the PC and monitor and that all seems in order than I would suspect it is an over-heating problem. Try setting up a small fan and blow some air through the lower venting louvers at the bottom back of the monitor. If this makes the problem go away then heat is your trouble. Make sure there isn't a lot of clutter around the louvers and the back of the monitor is not in direct sunlight or on a desk directly near a heating duct or radiator.

Chris is right, most likely it has nothing to do with the Computer, it is just that your screen is overheating. On the other hand, if the power light on the monitor is still on, then it is probably a problem with the Graphics Card overheating. If this is the case I would suggest having a professional install an exhaust vent onto the card to draw away some extra heat.

Thank you I appreciate your answers. It is not that I am playing on the computer for hours on end. We leave it on so that we can always access it quickly to search for something or generally play music. It is only when one of us goes into a game that it occurs.

The monitor light goes completely off and I just have to manually turn it back on and it is fine. We do live in the tropics and it is currently summer but the monitor does not feel hot to touch at all. It is never in direct sunlight but it is very humid and does get to over 40 degrees celsius on numerous occasions. The monitor vents are at the top, do u suggest having a fan point in on those or perhaps have an air con or something on around it?

Thanks again

It could be that the monitor just goes into a power saving mode after a certain amount of time. If the monitor has a menu or settings buttons, you could took in there and see if it says anything about power saving.

I'm having the same problem, when the monitor has been on for a while the power goes off (and the light aswell) every ~5 min or so. Also the adapter is making som weird crackle sound. Was the problem overheating or did you solve it?

It is usually a power setting....go to control panel/power options and on the left it will tell you choose when to turn off the display....change that setting.
