You'll most likely end up with between 3.0GB & 3.5GB being recognized, possibly even less. If you want to be able to access all 4GB, you'll have to upgrade to a 64-bit OS.

thankyou very much for your speedy and very helpful replies. i initialy had 1 gig in bank A1 and 1GIG in bank A2 I then stuck 2 gig in bank B1. on windows sytstem info it showed something like 1.97 gig. on SANDRA it showed 2048 meg. i swapped the memory thus/2gig to A1 1gig to B1 leaving 1 gig in A2.windows system info now shows 2.87 gig but SANDRA still shows 2048meg installed memory.since i installed the new memory the BIOS has always shown it as 4 GIG.I wonder which is correct. best wishes and thanks.terry burns
