Maxtor 40 gb not detected in windows

Specs: Windows XP
Got a 40gb hard drive which crushed. It was saying windows is missing some files. Tried to repair windows installation but my computer was not giving me the option to repair. Computer was rather giving option for a new installation. I decided to do a data recovery before the new installation. Unfortunately at 99% of recovery electricity cut off. When i tried again to connect the hard drive after resumption of power it can now only be picked in cmos and not in windows. How do i solve this problem?

Use a Live Linux DVD disk to access the files (not install) and manually copy them to another drive, then do your reinstall. There are many Live Linux OS's out there you can download for free and burn image to DVD as a bootable disk. Just Google it.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
