I have a Mac book Pro A1150 and I am trying to decide if my LCD is bad or if the GPU has gone out (the laptop was dropped). On the original LCD when I powered on the laptop the LCD would stay black so I changed it out, but on this new one when I power it on half the screen has a bunch of white lines and the other half is black. I though it might be a problem with the inverter so I changed that out but I am getting the same problem. I screen was tested before it was shipped so I am thinking it might be the GPU. I also hooked the laptop up to an external monitor but I was getting no signal message on the monitor. Does this sound like a problem with the GPU? Should the external monitor work without having to press any keys?

Your laptop doesn't post, take it to a repair shop.

I wanted to do a little follow-up incase anyone is having similiar problems. I ended up returning the screen for a replacement that was doing the same thing. I turned the pc on and let it sit for a minute or so then it booted up fine. I don't know what the problem was or how it fixed itself but it is working. The only other problem is that the screen is not very bright.
