Solved LPT2USB adapter failed

August 25, 2011 at 13:53:49
Specs: Windows Vista
Device itself OK , driver issue. I have legacy application which provides driver to Parallel port, any ideas. I installed PCI card with P. Port and that works connected to Parallel printer. When I put on the adapter and plug in USB nothing happens.

Legacy apps usually interface directly at the hardware level. Just use a parallel port card. The usb adapter emulates the port but does return the physical response.

I did and it works fine with a parrallel port printer but I not on the modern USB printers, that was the purpose of the adapter, I tried tried it on a old machine with native par. port but still could not get legacy software to print. I tested the device using a PRN file and worked. I am stumped.

Printing a PRN file is different than using LPT1. If you can change the port disnation to LPT2 or LPT3 it might work.

Thank you. I think I need to check with manufacturer. I thought devise was working but I think my PRN test worked while I was testing printer. I reconfiged to LPT3 as that was the original settings for the parallel PCI card - which works when connected to the parallel printer. When I attach I the adapter and connect it to the USB printer, the device manager knows it there and recognizes it as a parallel port and recognizes the printer and printer driver properly but gets hung up on the power supply, its asking me to manually set the range for the I/O setting. I have not clue what they are so I need to find out. Thanks for you advise, it helped.
