Did you just COPY the files to the external, without deleting them off the c drive? You would have to MOVE them to free up disk space.

Download and run CCleaner slim and then if your computer is working fine shutoff and then turn back on System restore. That will purge all the old restore points. That can be as much as 12% of the partition.

If this doesn't free up all the space you think it should then try a duplicate file program called Beyond Compare. BC is shareware that is FULLY functional for 30 days, which is actually 30 uses. After using it a few times you will probably send them the $30. Get it at the link below.

Yes I did delete the files from C drive immediatly after sending them to G drive. The disk space remained about the same like at about 6% which is not enough to even run defrag

Did you also empty the recycle bin? If not, they will still use disk space. Also try OtheHill's sugestions. I think the Dell 4500 came with an 80 gig HDD. That's not a lot of space to begin with. You say you moved a lot of files off the drive, and that's good, but programs and apps take a lot more space. Are there any programs you don't use anymore that you can get rid of? Check your ADD/REMOVE programs in Control Panel and see if you can do without some of those.
