lost system volume information

Specs: Windows XP
Yesterday when I got on my XP system (left on overnight) I saw a message that it had been unable to complete a write to F:\System Volume Information\EfqData\sd???..... I wasn't given an option to do anything about it. Now it looks like I have an empty F drive, although when I look at properties it shows the used file space. This is a secondary drive used to hold all my photos and to back up critical data such as my Quicken files. I don't do a virus scan on it unless Norton Quick Scan does it by default. I don't see anything in history to indicate this and there are no items in quarantine. Please tell me that there is a way to recover my data.

First look in Windows Disk Management to see if the partition is seen there. If so, post all the information listed for that drive.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I'm now breathing normally again because although an attempt to restore my system to an earlier point didn't complete successfully, it did recover the disk.
