lost data on harddrive, says reformat drive

Specs: windows 7/Vista 64bit, FX-8350 / 8 GB
when l started computer, when l when to click my external hard drive to open page, it said that it needed to reformat the drive...................l cant access anything on that drive, if l reformat the drive l will loose everything, its my backup drive, l hope someone can help

If only all computers were easy it fix or never went wrong, we'd never have forums to help

Listen, if it's your backup drive that means you must have a copy of the files somewhere else, so you won't lose anything. If you don't have copies anywhere else, then it's not a backup drive!

The external drive has probably failed and that can't be fixed. Test it with SeaTools:

Open Windows Disk Manager and post all the information listed for the drive in question. If the partition is listed as RAW then you probably improperly disconnected the external drive.

You may be able to repair the partition by using Easeus Partition recovery wizard. Get it at the link below.

Yes it is RAW. it is a toshiba 3 TB (2794.52 gb) drive and split into 2 partitions, looking at disk manage,ent, it says that the 1st partition is RAW and 349.31 gb, the 2nd is unallocated and is 1698.69 gb and the 3rd parti9tion is unallocated and is 746.52 gb, but it holds many files, pictures, music etc. on there, over 2 tb.

If only all computers were easy it fix or never went wrong, we'd never have forums to help
