Specs: WindowsXP, 1G
I have a serious problem with my IBM T43 Thinkpad laptop. I recently changed the hard-drive on this machine. I was able to notice that the hard drive was changed. Now to the problem it keeps asking me to swipe my finger and behaves as if it has a problem and goes directly to tell me number of tries exceed limit and then shows a locked symbol on a blank screen asking me for password, it's a diagram of a PC with a lock next to it. I do not know the password for this system and have never activated one. I have tried resetting the bios by removing the back-up battery or bios battery and all this did was to reset the clock and now I have three errors to fix. How can I reset the bios on this laptop and get rid of the errors so that I can re-install windows XP on this machine. I cannot do anything not boot up or get into safe mode. Please help me!!! And is there anyway I can remove the password . I have tried nearly everything that I can find on line. I do not know how to jump the motherboard as this is the most popular solution to this problem that I can find on the internet.

Did you buy this hard drive used? If so, the previous owner may have sold you a locked hard drive.

The hard-drive is not used neither is it locked, the problem is, the laptop is able to see that I placed another hard-drive in it rather than the one it came with, Because it it gave me the warning, that I have recently replaced the hard-drive other than the one it came with and by using this hard-drive my system may become unstable. If I chose to continue press ESC or f1 to enter in to start-up utility, and when I press F1 it takes me to the finger print screen and then to the password word screen here is exactly the message that I am getting.

ERROR
0271: Check date and time settings
ERROR
2010: The hard disk drive you have installed has not been qualified for use in this computer or does not have the latest firmware.
Using a drive that is not qualified may cause compatibility issues and potential data loss.

To automatically continue after this message is displayed without having to press (ESC), restart the computer, press (F1) during Power -on and look under "Startup" in the Bios Setup Utility.

I cannot get into the Startup Utility option.

You have to put the original had drive back in as it has the password and fingerprint ID pattern.

If you were the original owner then you would have had to swipe your finger to enter the system so whose laptop is it anyhow ?

Thanks it's a buddy's own. The original harddrive gave up and he got another one. Will try your solution.

Cannot get past the fingerprint scanner, it scans on its own very fast. All it says ERROR 2071: Check date and time settings. then starts to scan for finger print itself
