Specs: Windows xp pro
I am trying to reload windows xp pro on my Toshiba laptop. It starts to reload then locks up about 5 minutes into reload.
The original problem was that on boot up the machine would start to boot up then immediately shut down. Any help out there please?

Could be bad CD. Could be bad hard drive. Are you trying to repair or reinstall Windows XP? If reinstalling is it making it through the format portion of the install? If not a new hard drive is definitely needed.

I would guess that the laptop is overheating. Read your manual to learn how to clean out the dust and dirt that can accumulate. Also use the computer on a hard surface so the ventilation can work.

Why are you reloading XP? If it's because you were having a problem, that same problem may be what's causing the system to lock up.

You need to list the make/model of the laptop. Is the hard drive IDE or SATA? If it's SATA, there's a trick to installing XP.

Turtle,

PC turning on, then immediately shutting off sounds like a bad MOBO or fan to me.

Just another stupid saying...

It's a Tosh satellite M45. S265..... It's about 6 years old. The original os was xp home. I'm now trying xp pro. The fan is running excesivley so maybe it is overheating? Not sure what the hard drive is...I will take a look.

PC GEEK

That video is dangerous. As the comments indicate, you can kill sensitive electronic components by using a vacuum cleaner anywhere near a computer. Not just the hard drive either. Any part of the computer other than maybe a disconnected keyboard.

What do you mean "whatever"

If you don't know about EDC then perhaps you should investigate it. Look at the link below for just one example. Special vacuum for electronics.
