May 31, 2011 at 08:47:59
Specs: Windows XP
For some reason my drive will read burned cd's and DVD's but will not read music CD's at all. I have updated the firmware for the drive and its seemed only to get worse. I have a lite-on DH20A4H DVD ROM.
Help.

Are you waiting for the drive to autoplay the music CDs? Try clicking on the drive icon and/or opening the CD. You can select what type of disks the drive will autoplay. If you select general items the drive should open all disks.

Hope that is right. I am running Windows 7 and going by memory. Windows 7 has more details options.

yes I have already moved everything back to defaults for auto run and tried opening directly through my computer and the drive. To no avail.

Are the disk in question factory CDs or home brewed?

I've used Media player and my preferred choice is Media Monkey. Media player doesn't work at all and media monkey works sometimes.

Have you verified that you have the player set as the default player for music CDs?

If your drive has some miles on it the issue could also be the laser for CD media is getting weak, or the lens is dirty. A lens cleaning kit may clear that up.

I have tried cleaning it and media monkey is set as default on the box. Sometimes it works better if I close out of media monkey and put in the cd and let it autorun. But its a basically a 50/50 shot at best. I've had it so I think I am just going to buy a new drive. Thanks for your input!
