Solved Linux Server Hard Drive problem

Specs: linux gentoo, non
in my server i have 4 Hard drives all 4 is WD 1,5 TB SATA2. One week ago my 4th hard drive stopped working and i can’t boot my computer with it plugged in. the hard drives on my servver is not a raid.

If the problem is in the circuit board and you can find the EXACT model (the full long model number), then you may be able to switch the boards between the drives and the original MAY work (if you need to recover any files that were on it but not backed up), but I would recommend switching back and using the newer drive as long as you need to spend the money for a new hard drive, you might as well have a completely new drive. Make sure your backup solution is fully automatic for your protection.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Boot it without. Replace the bad drive and rebuild the file structure.

Try the drive in another computer in a secondary channel to see if it is readable. The cost for repair will exceed the replacement cost.

i have started to find the same harddrive but for the moment i cant buy one so i have to wait 2 or 3 months until the stores have it again.

boot it up as secondary hardrive from a computer with a main drive then see if you can copy files over to cd if you can

if it would work then i would nead 1498 cds and i have only 100. and if i would take dvds it would take 244. if it would have workt the i would move the files to my server.
