Specs: Windows XP
Hi.
I am struggling since yesterday with my external drive (SATA laptop USB disk).
I tried with many computers.
when i plug it, I can see the new diveice on the computer but not letter is assigned to it.
When i got to XP Device Manager, I can see the drive but the status is unreadable. Is there anything i can do for it?
This dive contains all my data and i have to access them.
thanks

What Disk Management says about your drive? What is filesystem as to Disk Management on it?
If Disk Management says it is RAW, then only data recovery remains.

If that external hard drive previously was in use and had a file system installed then you probably corrupted it through improper removal.

Download testdisk to attempt repair of the partition. Be sure to read all the tutorials before using. Get testdisk at the link below.

Did you read ALL the instructions for testdisk?

@OtheHill,
I have read ALL the instructions again.
You see, my problem is that testDisk is listing all the disks except the problematic one. If you have some ideas, i would be grateful.
Thanks

Did you install testdisk in Windows or use from a boot disk?

If the problem is with the drive letter assignment issue have you tried to assign a drive letter and then run testdisk?
