Left half of monitor won't turn on

May 28, 2012 at 11:57:40
Specs: Windows XP
As of yesterday, my monitor was working fine, but now the left half of the screen stays black. The model is a Dell CN5035-64180-53K-0KUS. I can't get to the start menu because it's on the black half of the screen. The computer is an IBM NetVista. I don't think it's the monitor's problem because it works fine on the other side and I haven't had any dead pixel problems before. Any ideas?

Try the monitor on another computer to rule out the monitor, and try another monitor on your computer to rule out the computer, but its most likely one of the backlights in the monitor that has failed.

You can try shining a torch at different angles on the side of the screen that is black, you will probs just barely see the start menu.
