LCD replacement in laptop

Specs: Windows 7, 1.8GHz Intel Dual / 2Gb DDR2
I bought a new LCD screen to fix a laptop (IBM R61) and installed it alright, but it does not function properly:

It does not display, but it does light up.

I plugged the old, cracked screen back in and it works fine.

I have used the main display connector on the old screen with the new screen linked to the other ribbon and the old screen displays while the new screen changes brightness.

They are both 1280 x 800, 14.1" and the connections are in exactly the same locations. The only differences are that the old screen is a Samsung while the new is an LG, and the Samsung is matte while the LG is glossy. Everything else fits perfectly.

Either it is bad, or you installed it wrong.

In any case it ought to boot to a see bios if it works at all.

I'm guessing its the laptop - it would not work with a different HDD either...
