Specs: Windows XP
I have to replace my 160GB hard drive in my HP Pavilion a320n running XP sp3 with 1GB of ram.
What is the largest hard drive I can use in this machine?

Pretty old system. Too bad it doesn't accept more RAM, 1GB appears to be the max & that's really not very much these days.

You should be able to go as large as you want with the HDD, but large IDE drives are getting pricey. Why not just add a 2nd HDD for storage & keep the 160GB HDD for the OS & programs? A 320GB IDE HDD will run you about $75. By comparison, a 1TB SATA HDD only costs about $50. You might wanna consider installing a PCI SATA controller card & a SATA HDD. It would cost about the same as the 320GB IDE but you'd have triple the capacity, plus the HDD will be usable in the future if you decide to upgrade to a more modern system.

Thanks mickliq. I thing I'll take your advise & install a SATA adapter.
