Laptop Won't Charge, Now What?

Acer / Aspire 5735z

Specs: Windows Vista
A little while ago, my Acer Aspire's power cord became a little frayed and the only way it would charge is if I held it a certain way and made sure it didn't move. Soon I replaced the charger, but then I noticed that my laptop had a different issue: even while the charger was plugged in, the laptop would beep as if the power cord was just being plugged in or out, over and over again, even though the chord was still plugged in.
Next I replaced the battery, but the laptop continued doing the beeping thing and now it won't charge at all and I can't get it to turn on. I have no idea what's wrong with it. I guess it's possible that the cord I have is not compatible with my computer, though the cord did work fine for a little and the website I bought it off of assured me it was, but I'm not sure how to tell if the cord is indeed compatible. Or the issue could be something else entirely. Any help is very much appreciated.

i am actually experiencing the same problem with my laptop right now. from how you explained it its not the charger its the Power jack. if you are savy enought with a solder gun here is a link that shows you how to fix it.

My dad, who is handy with all kinds of machinery, but not necessarily with computers, took the laptop apart to look at the jack, and from what he could tell there was nothing wrong with the jack. Unless laptop charger jacks are way different than your average jack, he probably knows what he's talking about.
