I have never heard of this. Removing an external drive with out ejecting it will only result in data loss not messing up your video drivers or system files. Are you sure your screen is not in external mode where the video is going to the external video port? Other wise it sounds like a system file issue. If it is the latter then you will need to do a repair install of your Windows.
