The whole laptop shuts down instantly without the battery. When the mains power is plugged in, with the battery plugged in it does not turn off. Instead you see on the bottom right of the screen the power indicator change from "battery plugged in and charging" to "just battery". Then if flicks back to "battery plugged in and charging again" after a second. Its an Hp pavilion dv5 1009tx. It shouldnt have a virus cause it has bit defender internet security on it . Ive recently changed my operating system from Vista home premium to Windows 7 with the same problem, yet it is occuring more often now with windows 7.
