Solved Laptop touchpad right click function stopped working

October 10, 2015 at 07:46:27
Specs: Windows 10
A few days ago the "right click" feature of my laptop stopped working. I was on Yahoo composing an email and when went to correct a misspelled word, I right clicked on the word as I always do and the correct options for spelling did not pop up. It is also not working when I want to open a new tab from my favorites...I'll normally right click on the icon and it opens up. It doesn't work period!
Any thought as to how to fix this or is it fried and I will just have to live with it?
Thank you in advance!

Without knowing details such as Manufacturer/Model, etc. I would recommend you reinstall the touchpad drivers.

Hi Geek, I think selecting the first reply as best answer is risky.

Yahoo is not good for testing things as it is prone to hiccups itself.
e.g. my yahoo seems to no longer provide spell check, maybe because win 10 provides.

How old is the your laptop.

Does right click work anywhere?
e.g. on the blank section on the right of this webpage.

Personally I prefer a cordless mini mouse to touchpads.

Good Luck - Keep us posted.

Ummm... you left out the most important part which follows Geek: "iamnot". HA!
Thank you for the heads-up. I did not (nor do I intend to) reinstall the driver. The touchpad issue is not Yahoo related, I was providing a scenario of when the right click fails to function as it should/used to. My yahoo still does provide spell check as the incorrectly word generates a red squiggly line. Another example of the right click not working is when I want to choose a new wallpaper and "set as background" doesn't happen with the right click. I do now how to get around this, but I really liked the features of the right click. And no, it doesn't do anything when I got he the white section of this page.
My ASUS laptop is about 6 years old (I know, I is time for a new one especially since the "wireless" got fried recently-- now I use a plug-in by Net Gear).
I will consider a cordless mini mouse, but I actually like and prefer the touchpad. Less-is-more when it comes to "stuff" for me.

Thank you for your solution; however, this is a little scary (risky!) for a novice like me. Keep in mind the words that follow my name..."iamnot".

Hi, if the touchpad's right click does not function whatsoever, it rather suggests a hardware fault.

Knowing the make *AND* model, someone here may be able to advise, how easy it is to replace the touchpad. Possibly there is a Youtube video showing the procedure for this.

Often one can find inexpensive used parts on ebay from scrappers.

It is best, holding back allocating a 'Best Answer' until there are a few replies. Although in this thread - they will not be any better than mine though! :-)

Good Luck - Keep us posted.

Plug in a mouse and let us know if that works.

It sounds more like touchpad hardware failure to me too - at this stage.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
