With laptops there are a number of possible causes of display failure. The screen itself , it's inverter or backlight. The fine ribbon cable connecting it to the motherboard, or the graphics on the motherboard itself might have failed. If the latter then you are up for a new motherboard. Any of the former can be repaired. If toggling to the external display after windows has loaded does not work then you would lean towards graphics failure and a new motherboard.
