Someone gave me an older Compaq Evo n1000v that worked except the screen was very dim. With an external screen it worked fine. I replaced the inverter. The screen worked fine the first time but didn't the next time I turned it on. After that, the screen displays the Compaq logo for a few seconds when first booting up then goes to black before the windows desktop appears. It still works fine with the external screen.
DellDebbieB, yes, I tried the safe mode. The screen shows the Compaq logo as it's booting but then goes black when the start-up music plays. The external screen lights up fine. This machine is 10 years or so old. Is it possible the bulb died after I installed the new inverter? The 1st time I had the replacement inverter installed, the screen worked fine. After about 5 minutes or so I shut it down and put the face plate trim back together. After that, the next time I started it up the screen shut off when the music played. I guess i'll have to try another inverter.
