Solved laptop - screen black, keyboard not working

January 12, 2015 at 08:40:31
Specs: Toshiba

I made a video to briefly show what's exactly going on. It's been like this since Saturday. It was working fine throughout the day, but when I got home, it wouldn't even turn on. I noticed it was really hot at the bottom, and other than that, it just won't work. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

If its unusually hot then that is sure to be what's causing or has caused the problem.

It's about certain it is a hardware issue so there's not anything you can do from the outside except clean the vents. If you are the type who is happy to delve about inside then we need the model number of your Toshiba.

Best guess is that a fan became jammed and cooked the processor (even though perhaps it shouldn't have).

Sorry I've no better news. Nice informative video.

I can't image anyone is likely to come along with any happier ideas but no harm keeping a check on here just in case.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Unfortunately, even though such computers are called "laptops",
sitting them on a lap or a bed where the vents on the bottom can
get covered will prevent the fan from doing its job. Without enough
airflow, heat builds up.
