Solved Laptop not recognizing USB from IDE hard drive

Specs: Windows 7
My laptop doesn't recognizing USB from IDE hard drive adapter. I've tried disk management, but I find nothing there.

Thanks for your help. I bought an external enclosure that the laptop recognized, so everything's good. I guess it just didn't like that USB set up I had w/o the enclosure.

Yes, it has a power adapter.

If the external hdd has no data then it might not show up. There is an option in Folders Options to Show drives and folders with no data.

It would have to show in disk management before we get to files.

I'd say maybe some connection is bad or the usb to ide is bad. I guess the usb port could be not working. Try another adapter or put the drive in a real computer to see if the hard drive even works.
