My laptop all of a sudden freezMy laptop all of a sudden freezes during boot up. will not even go into bios or self recovery mode. Discovered later the fan don work cos the base was very hot. Before the final freeze, it's been hanging and working. Could it be that the bad fan had damaged the processor and could that also haveaffected the motherboard?
Tried to reinstall the OS, it terminates with the blue screen displaying error msg about possible hard drive or hardware fault.es during boot

Why would you reinstall the OS for a hardware problem? The fan might have to be replaced. If it's the mother board, it might not be worth fixing.

I tried reinstalling the OS before realizing it was the fan not working. Having used it for a very long time with that heat untill it stopped responding, would you in your experience think the board might still be good?

Sure, there is a chance that the board is still good. You don't have the laptop on a table cloth or a bed, do you? My brother fried an HP like that & I almost fried one too.

It's always on a bed. I've taken it apart now. Can you pls advice if i should change just the fan and heat sink or will it be necessary to change the processor too? Reply will be appreciated. Thanks

First try to boot it on a hard wood table. Maybe that's all you need. The bed is the problem. If it still overheats on a table, make sure that there is power reaching the fan before you change it.
