Laptop crashes while charging any fixes?

Specs: Windows 7
I've been experiencing a strange problem lately and I'm looking to see if there's any way to fix the problem myself. Whenever I'm playing a game (typically Resident Evil 5, Sims 3) my laptop crashes to a black screen that doesn't respond to any command and the only thing to do is manual shutdown. This problem only occurs while my laptop is charging with and without a battery BUT there's no problems at all when the laptop is running on battery alone

Might be heat buildup from both charging and running the game?

Why did it take me over a year to phone in a problem to ATT?

Hmm I'm not entirely convinced it could be a overheating problem because with and without the charger the laptop stays at around 37C - 40C. When running a game it maxes out at around 62C without the charger and with the charger I don't see it get past around 62C it tends to crash before then

Is your charger giving out the right volts and amps? if it is giving out more then it will be making the motherboard overheat.

you need a multimeter to check it, but if you have bought a new charger and the problem is still happening then you need to take it to someone who can check the volts and amps on the charger and on the motherboard, it sounds like the graphics card is at fault or maybe the motherboard.

or just the ac jack is at fault.

I have exactly the same problem, everyone says the only way to fix it is to get a new video card, but im low on funds. Tell me if that works for you.

For me laptop crashes when plugged in while i play video games. Screen shuts off but LEDs are still glowing. I got gateway fx. 9800 Geforce video card.

HP DV6-2044dx ATI Radeon HD Mobility

I have the same issue!! Im pretty computer savvy and I am still blown away by this. Ive tried different chargers, changed settings, and downloaded new drivers. It has to be the video chip-set. Im going to order one shortly. I will reply when installed. Good luck, I know how frustrating this problem is.

Same here. I have 2 identical gateway laptops. Both crash when running any graphic intensive programs. even now youtube full screened for more than 2 hours. Its been a recurring issue that renders these machines useless for gaming, but I have run MULTIPLE apps and heavy plug ins and it never flinches. I use them both for music. they are

gateway laoptops MD2614u
and BOTH after 2 years of plentiful use have stopped running video games.
I will be running a game and it will be fine until about 2 minutes after use. I have cooling fan and they dont do SQUAT. they keep them cool on the outside (which for my music aps is good for 2+hr shows) but the inside gets cooked from games (or video) regardless of the fan. Im glad I bought these machines when I did cause they work great for the music programs, but they are s--- for gaming.
