Laptop battery plugged in and not chargin

Specs: Windows 7
I just bought a new battery because my old one would only last about 45 minutes. Now I have an icon on my system tray that says Plugged in and not charging. The little red battery light is on the front. I have removed the battery several times, plugged and unplugged....any idea why this would be happening on a new battery? I've seen other posts that it could be the charging port on my motherboard but I didn't have this issue with the old battery. Any help would be great.

First, turn off laptop and let it charge for about 12 hours to 24 hours and try again.

If fails then you have to suspect either the battery is bad/wrong, or the charging circuit or the ac plug adapter is going bad or maybe dirty or loose connections somewhere.

Never an easy way to test. Since your old battery seemed to work I 'd suspect the battery is faulty somehow. Return it would be my suggestion. There seems to be a lot of grey market batteries of suspect quality. I'd never have bought it on an auction site. If you bought it from the OEM then it should be a good battery.
