Thanks for the info. I see you tried the keyboard(s) in all USB ports.

There are a few ideas here, that you might have already tried:

EDIT:
Found no mention of any built in keyboard lock.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Any errors showing against Keyboards in Device Manager?

What's strange is that other keyboards don't work either. On the face of it this points to a hardware (motherboard) fault but that would be very unusual indeed.

I'm curious - why haven't you upgraded to Win 8.1 (MS no longer support Win 8)?

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

i didn't upgrade cuz my iwin program wouldn't work in it and when I realized that it would my pc wouldn't allow me to upgrade. nw all of a sudden my keyboard quit. and no there aren't any issues in device manager either.

Let us have the make and model number of your computer. I suppose there is a vague chance there is some sort of keyboard lock built in that has activated.

Were the other keyboards you tried USB types, and if so is the USB socket you used working for other devices (flash / pen drives etc)?

i probably added in more than was needed but here goes nothing

keyboard and mouse are:
logitech s520
m/n y-rba97
pid df8360hlj
p/n 820-001410

pc is:
hp pavilion 20 all in one pc
serial # 3cr2430ktt
product # h3z14aa#aba
model # 20-bo13w

i suppose they were all flash drives
and yes all of my flash drives are working. i have even tried transferring my keyboard to all four of my ports to no avail.

Great to hear. Which particular fix was it - the powering off one?
I edited my post and might have lost the crucial bit.

no the one link to the other site which told me to
Taken from ehow. It works for me. Hope this help =)))

Click on the Control Panel.
Go into the "Accessibility" options.
Open the tab labeled "Keyboard".
Make sure none of the boxes have a check in them. If the laptop has Microsoft Vista as the operating system, go to the "Ease of Access" option and go to "Change how your keyboard works." (Mine says "make the keyboard easier to use) Make sure none of the boxes in that section are checked.
Click the "Save" button.
Exit the Control Panel and begin typing to see if the keyboard is now working.

it worked spectacularly for me
