Keyboard types wrong characters

January 1, 2011 at 10:17:30
Specs: Windows XP
Suddenly, when I type a character, an additional one appears, such as "w" opens up IE help page: r becomes r5; p becomes p-; etc. I have tried many suggestions , such as regional language, checked for updates; troubleshoot (says it works properly); checked for updates to drivers, reboot computer, etc. Nothing works. The keyboard has worked fine. I have XP. It makes typing in passwords impossible, and more issues, too.

Thank you.

The model of your computer would have assisted in providing an answer.

If your computer is a desktop then you can try cleaning the keyboard or replacing it. Laptops are more complicated but still the same issue.

Hi Thank you. It is a laptop with an additional keyboard.

So, which keyboard is messing up? I have successfully washed free standing keyboards with a brush and spray cleaners. Then rinse with water. You need to work fast and then invert the keyboard. You can also disassemble them. You need to allow days to dry.

I don't have any experience with laptop keyboards but Google should yield lots of cleaning methods.
