Specs: XP Professional, Athlon 3700+/2gigs ddr400 pc3200
I found one of my old machines in my basement today. It's a plain vanilla case containing a 200 mghz mmx processor. I'm not sure about the ram, but all 4 slots are filled. It's sooo old it has a serial port mouse, which I no longer have. I would like to salvage some parts if I can. I'm going to pull the floppy drive for sure. The PSU is a Star 230 watt. It has 4 functions listed. +5v @23amps / +12v @9 amps / -5v@0.3Amps and -12v@0.3 amps. Would this be worth saving? I may consider saving it and putting Linux Puppy on it to mess around with. What do you think? I have to laugh, I paid $1200.00 for it when it was new. TIA for any input.

The RAM is probably SIMMs which must be installed in pairs. Which type of PSU...AT or ATX? You should be able to run DSL or an earlier version of Puppy. Or if you have copies of Win98 (or ME) & Win95, you could use 98Lite to create a "hybrid". Win98 (or ME) using the Win95 shell is extremely fast.

Ha Ha, hey Jam, how are ya. Maybe it's blue because you were holding your breath while typing. Anyhow it's an AT psu. I have all the above mentioned OS's. I can give it a try. I need to get a NIC card for it. I have dsl service and removed the modem years ago. I also have a 2 port usb pci card i can install. I guess with some playing around, I can salvage it. It's kinda sentimental:))) Thanx for the reply.

The same thing happened when I replied to a post right after you did in the gaming forum. Did you not close out your sig with < /font >? I'm gonna try editing my other response by adding < /font > before my text to see if it changes to black.

EDIT: sure enough, it worked...now I'll do it to the above at the end of the 1st sentence. Yep, that did it.

Fix your sig!

Sorry about that Jam. I don't remember ever changing it from the original, except for the colors from time to time. I'm gonna work on a new one anyway. Thanx.
