Is it OK to increase the power cord of SMPS.

Specs: Windows 7 , intel core2quad q6600
I have recently bought new computer cabinet but when me and my nerdy buddy started assembling all my good old hard ware into new cabinet i came to know that power cord from SM PS to CPU power socket on motherboard is pretty short about 4 inch.So is it OK to increase the length of that cord.I found that all other SM PS have common length of cord.
Please can someone give me any solutions/suggestions for my problem.I don't want to replace new cabinet, not in condition of buying new SM PS.
Specs : NZXT gamma (new cabinet), 550 watts techtronics SM PS, Gigabyte g41, 4GB DDR3, 500 GB seagate.

Yeah u can increase it and the steps are very easy. I usually use dead PSU cables, just cut the wires and connect them one by one and make sure to cover them with electrical tape.

SMPS is what power supply units (PSUs) are generally called in India. Is that where you're from? Many of the PSUs available in your country are complete garbage. I couldn't find Techtronics brand listed anywhere, are you sure about the spelling? Do you know the model number? Did you buy a "computer cabinet" that has the PSU mounted on the bottom rather than on the top? Read this:

My guess is your PSU is garbage but rather than cutting & splicing wires, just buy an extension cable like this one:

I think he meant 4-pin cable that supply power to CPU.
