Is the "tray" or desktop the most effecient location to have icons- or is it the same thing?

It's always better not to have too many icons on the desktop or tray. If you don't have a good graphics processor, it eats up a lot of resources. I made folders on the desktop and put the icons in the folders according to classification.

If you have programs that you use while on the internet, for instance, having the icon in the tray allows access without minimizing a window. Your word processing program, for instance, is very convenient to have in the tray. I am constantly copying text and placing it into Word.

A rule of thumb to follow is this. If you have a program you use very little then don't have an icon in either place. You can always access it from the start menu or from Computer.

I have most of the shortcuts (icons) in the tray. I save temporary stuff on the desktop. When I am finished with it, I either move it or delete it.
