I have an external (dial-up connection) USB modem made by Encore electronics (ENF656-USB-AGER) attached to my computer. My problem is sometimes it doesn't get a good connection to the internet. If I move it around and unplug it then plug it back in, it will start working for a short time again. I am using windows 7 so I am wondering if it isn't compatible or if I just have a bum modem? Any help would be appreciated!
I would doubt it being a compatibility issue. If it were that then the connection would not work at all. It sounds like a hardware issue. If moving the modem and unplugging/reconnecting seems to fix it at least temporarily I would suspect the cable or USB port. I see the cable is a short hardwired part of the modem. Have you tried in a different USB port? Replace the phone cable. It might not be providing a good connection into the modem.
I have already tried changing phone cords and have switched out the USB ports, but that still doesn't seem to have any effect on it. Sometimes it works fine and other times it doesn't work at all unless you disconnect and reconnect several times and play around with the connections. I don't know whether to think it is something in the modem cord itself or if just my phone company's line just isn't clear enough for it to stay connected. I am not having phone problems though. Thanks for your suggestions!
