Solved Intel se440bx-2 turns on and does nothing

Dell / Dimension xps d266

Specs: Windows 2000 Professional, 333mhz PII, unknown ram

I have this PC that I need to get working, but it does nothing when I turn the power on. This computer started having problems when it would not turn on at all, assumed to be a dead PSU. I installed a new PSU and now, when it turns on, it does nothing. The screen remains blank, and there are no beep codes present.

I have installed a new graphics card in the AGP slot, but it still does nothing. Both the power light and the drive activity light stay lit.

Remove and reinstall the cpu to make sure it's in good. Put the old video card back in. Sometimes those old boards are fussy about what AGP cards they'll accept. Temporarily remove all the other cards and disconnect all the drives. Then see if you get the Dell logo or posting screen.

If you don't--and since you've already replaced the motherboard (oops I mean the power supply)--then the motherboard is probably bad.

Thanks Dave,

After putting the old card back in and reseating the processor, only to have it do the same again, I've given up. Some things are just not worth the hassle. Replacing a board on a system that's 10 years old is most certainly one of them. Once again, thanks for your help.

You're welcome. If it's important to get it fixed I might have one of those motherboards. Or you may be able to just move the hard drive to another computer. I don't think win 2000 is as fussy about that as is XP and later OS's.
