I just installed HP Officejet 4500 printer and now my cordless phone doesn't work (no dial tone). I charged up an old cordless phone but it doesn't work either. I tested the phone line on my old corded telephone and it works fine. Does anyone have any ideas? This just seems too coincidental but I can't imagine how the two are related. Help please.
Simple way to test your theory. Turn the printer off. They probably both operate on 2.4gHz band. Cordless phones often interfere with wireless networks and vice-versa. You might have to mess about with radio channel selections to get them both working without interference. Change channel in the router to a low number and in the phone select a higher one if you have the option.
Thanks Richard. I'm using a USB cable to connect the printer. I tried turning it off, then I uninstalled it but had no luck getting the cordless phone to work. Maybe there is some sort of interference going on ... this is a home computer and I'm not a tech person. Getting an 'all in one' printer seemed like a good idea at the time but now I'm not too sure. Guess I'll have to have a tech come look at it as radio channels and routers are way beyond me.
