iMac G4 behaving badly

February 24, 2010 at 08:51:06
Specs: OS X (10.3.9)
I love my iMac but it has been giving me trouble. Everything will be going great then the desktop starts to scramble like a kaleidescope to the point you cant use it or see what you're looking at...then a gray transparent curtain covers the screen with a dark box window in about 4 languages telling me to shut down. I turned off screen saver and the sleeper which helped alittle. There's no just does this whenever it chooses. Also when I do get to tell it to shut down....the gray curtain falls across the screen with the dark box window telling me to use the power off button to shut down.

You might want to post this in the Mac forum, but I wonder if you haven't picked up a virus somewhere. Despite popular opinion, Macs can get viruses, too. My Powerbook G4 got hit with one of those dreaded "your computer may be infected ..." trojans. I shut the Mac off right away, then booted it back up and immediately downloaded ClamX (a free antivirus program). Haven't had any problems since.

That's possible. I first noticed the problem when I played a movie cd. That's when my trouble began. Can a movie cd carry a virus?
