IDE DVD+RW not detected by SuperMicro MOBO Mo

March 25, 2011 at 19:00:43
Specs: Windows XP
I was trying to install a new Sony Optiarc DVD+RW drive onto my SuperMicro Model P4SCi Motherboard. The Phoenix Award BIOS (newest version is installed = v1.2B) will recognize and boot from the new DVD+RW drive (with a bootable disc loaded), but will NOT recognize the DVD+RW drive once I connect my 500GB SATA hard drive. No way, no how, at least not that I've found, and I think I've tried everything in the BIOS settings.
Note: With the 500GB SATA hard drive connected, the BIOS does recognize my old DVD-ROM drive, and will boot from it, etc.. Does it sound like I may have missed something silly?
Thanks for any wisdom - not a *critical* problem, just weird & annoying so far, but that's where all the "fun" is, right?

Is the new optical drive a SATA type? Have you tried using the AHCI setting? Are you using the same exact ports to connect the drives?

Don't use any RAID settings.

The new DVD+RW drive is an IDE. I found the problem in the BIOS settings:
> ADVANCED Tab,
> On-Chip Serial ATA,
> SATA Mode needs to be either "Combined" or "Enhanced"
in order for the IDE DVD+RW to be recognized by the BIOS
when the SATA hard drive is connected.
Thanks for the tips...

No no no, thank you for trying to help. As far as my "stumbling" onto the solution, "Even a blind bird catches a worm now and then." I'm at sea aboard one of Woods Hole Oceanographic's research ships, so the kindness of others like yourself is one of my only means of tech support. Thanks again ~ Anton Zafereo
