If you never see anything at all on the screen then it is most likely a hardware fault and nothing to do with msconfig. What were you trying to fix (wondered if the symptoms were that of an impending hardware fault)?

I know it's a difficult question but does the notebook "sound" as if it is starting and do the usual lights flash?

It could be worth hanging on an external monitor just to make sure it's not a screen fault. Also with the computer on try closing the lid slowly (not fully) while watching the screen. If you see something flash up on it, it can point to a problem with the cable where it hinges or with a connector at either end.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

What does '. . . safe mode doesn't help' mean? If you can get to safe mode and can't fix msconfig then do a system restore from a date before you messed things up.

If you can't get to safe mode and the screen is always dark then as Derek says, it's something else.

Keep tapping F8 after post to show the Win7 startup menu.
If there is an item: Start with last known good configuration" select this item and see how far you get.
