I wouldn't expect a system with those specs to running blazingly fast. And a BIOS update is NOT going to make it run any faster. What is telling you to do a BIOS update?

The updated BIOS will be found at the IBM/Lenovo website. The board model number may help to find the file, but you'll probably need to know which model Aptiva the board came from. Could it be an Aptiva 2138?

XP runs slow on 500MB RAM with IE6, it really needs 1000MB (1GB), especially if you are running IE7 or 8 and that is on a Pentium 4!!! You probably should have used Windows 98 or a lean Linux set up. What you have is going to be slow no matter what you do.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
