Specs: Windows Vista, amd 64 live dual 2x processor 4800+
so my hp pavilion slimeline is acting up !!! Its randomly shutting off/crashing without cause or warning. From what i can tell it appears to happpen only when the computer is processing high amounts of data such as videos, graphic files, stuff like that. i thought maybe it was my graphics card so i replaced it and still the same thing. after surfing the net a little more i was told about a program called speedfan that i downloaded to view the temperature readings of all the internals of the tower and i guess it should be running around 40-50 degrees but mine it at 65-70ish. i ordered an external usb fan which seems to keep the temperature about right but im still having the same crashing issue i have only had the computer for about 1yr and sadly i bought it refurbished at coscto thinking it would be just fine . unfotunately i have had nothing but problems with the thing.........:( please please please someone help me. i am about 98% sure that the problem is the cpu overloading, i just want to wipe the cpu...well the whole computer clean. i am not one of those "know absolutely nothing about computers people" i am very good at just about everything with them i just have never gone to this extent with a motherboard before so im not quit sure exatly what im doing,

"all the internals of the tower" there is a difference between tower and slim, this is tower http://www.tweaknews.net/reviews/th...

"i just want to wipe the cpu" U can't wipe cpu but u can wipe hdd or ssd. U have 160w psu which video card did u install?

"65-70ish" Underload or idle? better check cpu temp in bios. Here is your cpu http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K8/AM...

"i have only had the computer for about 1yr" It's a nice system but it's old. Here is the system specs http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...

if it isn't still under warranty, get access to the inside and blow it out with a can of compressed air. If you are feel you can do so, pull the ram & cards and reinsert them. Unplug before any of this.

You didn't have to post that list of hardware. kuwese already posted a link to your computer specs. All you had to do was look them up at the HP site.

You CPU temps are high & your power supply is underpowered at just 160W. Luckily you don't have an actual video card, your system uses the 6150LE integrated graphics chip. You don't need extra cooling fans, you just need to clean the ones you have. As larryf215 said, if you can handle the chore, unplug the power cord, open the case, then give the heatsinks & fans a good blast with compressed air.
