Specs: Windows XP, 4 GB DDR2
Last thursday I swapped the monitor on my the family desktop to my custom rig (to be used for design projects) just to see whether it would work or not. After my rig was tested and moved the monitor back to the family desktop, the video card was no longer registering and I have been removing and reinstalling the ATI Catalyist software.

the family desktop specs
ASUS M2V-MX motherboard with K8M890 chip support
AMD 64 Athlon X2 2.00 GHz processors
ATI Radeon X1650 series 512 mb DDR2

Simply swapping the monitor shouldn't affect the graphics in any way, unless you were so rough with it that you partially pulled the card from the slot. Why are you messing with the drivers?

well my Card was no longer being recognised by my computer, not even my dvi-vga was working for the monitor, so I panicked looking for the drivers. In a hasty descision I thought reinstalling drivers would have helped.

reseat the graphics card first, to rule out it it might of accidently been moved out of place.
