I locked myself out of my lenovo laptop with an HDD password that I have forgotten so I thought if i could do a factory reset with the F keys it would restore the it back to factory condition or is there another way I can get into my machine ?

Contact the manufacturer and be prepared to prove ownership. A factory reset won't work.

An HD password is a security measure to combat the theft of laptops. If it was easily circumvented it would serve no purpose.

Think about it....people usually document IMPORTANT passwords on machines. There are too many stolen laptops anymore and as mentioned....either contact the previous owner for the password or prove ownership with Lenovo....whichever is easier .....good luck.....
